Abstract: The treatise considers that the previous understanding of Economic Geography about transport has two trends: (1) transport is taken as a given background of economic development and economic spatial location but the changes of transport condition itself are not brought into the scope of econ-geographical research; (2)the development of transport is only recognized as renewals of transport means, but the deeper regular pattern of relationship between transport and economic development is not held. In the opinion of the author, both of these two trends have prevented Economic Geography from deeper recognizing and interpreting the regularity of spatial structure changes of economic activities. The author stands for that the traditional static geographic research on transport should be transformed into a dynamic one. He advances the theory that transportization is one of most important features of industrialization and an economic process in company with industrialization as well During the transportization process, the scale of movement of goods and people over space expands rapidly due to the use of nordern means of transport; and in the same period, transport bscomes the most important basic industry, infrastructure and environmental condition upon which the modern economic growth depends. Dominated by certain objective laws, the transportization process can be divided into thres stages:pre-transportization stage. transportization stage and post-transportization stage; the transportization stage itself can also be divided into two quasi-stages; primary transportization and perfect transportization. According to the treatise, China is still in the primary transportization stage now, some severe contradictions exist between the underdeveloped transport sectors and demind for further indrstrializing. The author considers that in some degree, the improvement of structure of economic geography system is reflected in the process of a territorial transportization So he points out that the relationship between the process of transportization and the improvement of economic spatial structure should be thought highly of, and the analysis of levels and further trend of transportization of different regions and their economic planning should be combined.
