Abstract: In 1980's the sex ratio of the total population in China and in most.of the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities increased obviously, meanwhile it differed greatly in each provincial destrict.these characteristics are closely related with natural growth and mechanical increase of population in China.and the main cause is the change of sex ratio at birth. The ratio at birth in China and in most of the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, except Shanghai.Anhui.Guizhou.Qinghai,Xinjiang,rose in varying degrees from 1981 to 1989.The sex ratio of China has been a little higher for a long time.Undoubtedly, its increase has bad effect on finding partner's in marriage to male. Now this phenomenon is not common in China. But it is very eminent in western rural areas. If appropriate policies for decreasing sex ratio at bitrh are not taken.this problem will become more serious.
