    ON CHINA’S THEORETICAL MODELS FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    This paper provides an outline for the regional developmenrt models for China for China.The models are as follows:(1) Cost-benefit analysis applicable to assessing various construction projects;(2)Site choice models(including the linear model of production location accessing to both material sites and markets, the nonlinear modal of enterprises materials or products transport optimizationand the marketing distrtct optimization modal of the tertiary function);(3) Regional and interregional input-output models;(4) Regional growth models(including regional neoclassical growth and nonequilibrium growth). The arthors consider that the models above must be revised or replenished based upon specific conditions when they are applied to practice in China.

    Since 1980's,with the implementation of opening and reforming policies,a large amount of investment from home and overseas has been introduced to China's opening cities. Therefore, the study of urban investment environment is very importnt.This paper focuses on the investment environment assessment which is indispensable in the study of investment environment,and puts forward the methods of assessment.Methods of determination of assessment area, quantification of assessment unit,selection and quantification of assessment index which are different from previous agricultural land assessment and urban land price classification have been mentioned,On the basis of above analysis,two investment environrnent assessment models of Expert Scoring model and Fuzzy Assessment model have been designed.Their integrated model has been successfully applied in the comprehensivequality assessment of investment environment and suitability assessment for various enterprises in the city of Ningbo.

    THE FACTORS AND REGIONAL PATTERNS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF RURAL INDUSTRY IN CHINA’S LESS DEVELOPED REGIONS:A CASE STUDY OF HENAN PROVINCE

    Henan is one of the provinces which can typify the less devaloped regions in China. According to the results from the 178 cnterprise surveys and interviews in 1992,the paper investigates the factors and regional patterns of the developwent of rural industries in these regions. Soine conclusions are as follows:(1)In the 1980s, low quility of productive factors and low structural levels restrained the intensive development of production.(2)In the 1990s, the policy charactrized with high rate and structural adjustment should be adopted for promoting industrial development.(3) Accelerating the innovation of economic organization and promoting the industrial lindages and setting up rural industrial points will be vital for structural adjustment.(4) As to active and fast-developing rural industry, it is essential to make the market machanism well.(5) Both economic able persions and well-trained labours are very important for the development of rural industry.(6)As regions are different in productive factors and environmental conditions,the directions and patterns for developing rural industry should be taken according to their superiorities of resources.

    FORMATION AND EVOLUTON OF THE TECTONIC LANDFORMS IN THE ALTUN MOUNTAIN AND ITS NEIGHBOURING REGION

    The Altun Mountain on the northwest of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau is a fault-block mountain, and the gemorphic pattern of the tectonic landforms in this region looks much like a flat alphabet"S".We found that the Altun fault zone which reactived during the period of Neotectonic movemnt was playing an important role in the development of tectonic landforms in this region, That is, the AItun Mountain was formed by the strong uplifting fault-blicks,which took place under the control of the fault zone in the Quaternary, Similarly,the geomorphic pattern of this region was also formed under the stress field at that time. As a result,the arc fauly-block mountains and fault basins are distributed antisymmetrically to the Altun strik-slip fault zone.Based on the synthetical analysis of the Quaternary strata, tectosequent and absolute age data, the evolution process of tectonic landrorms in this region can be divided into three stages. The first stage is from the end of the Pliocene to the early pleistocene(2.80-1.60Ma.B.P.),the second is from the end of the early pleistocene to the mid-pleistocene(1.60-0.25Ma.B.P.), and the third is from the end of the mid-pleistocene to the Holocene(0.25Ma.B.P. to the present).Considering the time sequence,the evolution process of tectonic landforms in this region was in conformity woth that of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. It was since the late Pleistocene,i.e., since 0.25Ma,B.P., when the Tarim Basin was really separated from the Caidam Basin by the Altun Mountain, As the uplifting activities and the development of the Altun fault-blocks showed strong in the west and weak in the East these processes produced the present undulating shope of the Altun Mountain.

    CALCULATION AND ANALYSIS OF WIND STRESS AND WIND FIELD IN THE WORLD OCEAN

    Fluxes of momentum,heat,radation and water at the air-sea interface dhve the ocean circulation and determine the coupling between the atmosphere and the ocean.A reliable determination and analysis of these flux fields and wind fields are therefore essential for understanding the role of the oceans in climate. The goal of this paper is to introduce some atmospheric kinetic and dynamic eiements, calculative methods, research history and the data for analysing global climate and interaction between the atmosphere and the ocean. The comprehensive ocean-atmosphere data set(COADS)is the most complete data set available for the global oceanic regions up to now. The examples of calculation and analysis of wind stress and wind fields in the world oceans on the basis of the wind data derived fron COADS are given at last.

    AN UNEQUAL INTERVAL GRAY FORECAST TO THED EVELOPMENT OF DEBRIS FLOW VALLEY

    The shape of longitudinal profile of a debris flow valley contains the information about the evolution of the basin and the development of the debris flow, and is a synthetical topographic factor which indicates the develoment of the debris flow. Taking the Liziyida valley along the Chendu-Kunming railway as an example, the paper forecasts the change of the forming index N of the longitudinal profile of the valley by using the unequal intervaI GM (1,1),and improves the accuracy of the forecast method. Finally relevant problems in forecasting valley evolution are discussed.

    The existence of flood surge and high suspended sediment concentration in the flood surge zone has long been discerned,bur its significance in the development of tidal flat and its mechanism are not very clear yet.This Paper deals with the flood surge process over muddy tidal flat along the Shanghai Coast, proposes a qualitative model to explain the nature of the phenomenon of hign suspended sediment concentration in the flood surge zone and the mechanism of flood Surge whose intrinsic quality is that there exists a current accelerating effect which last scores of minutes along the tidal flat in flood surge zone,and discusses its importance to the development of muddy tidal flat along Shang coast Finally,a new definition of flood surge is put forward.

    The diaparit y of economic development between the south and the north of Jiangsu province becomes obvious,The allocation of productive forces should be based on this fact,before the end of this century and even before the beginning of the next century that the economic development in the north should be speed up to reduce the economic disparity, under the presupposition of keeping up a steady increase at a high speed in the total economic strength of the province. Therefore,the overall conception of the future distribution of productive forces can be described as follows:To put the stress on thesouth zone, to accelerate the construction of the industry intensive zone along the east Longhai rail way line and to improve the economic strength of two centre cities Huaiyin and Yancheng; then to strive to form such an allocation of productive forces by the beginning of the next century,in which there are a several economic core regions, an industry-intensive zone,and two economic increasing centres.

    A STUDY ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF THEME PARKS

    The success of Splendid China in Shenzhen has given rise to a wave of theme parks in recent years. Thepresent paper disousses 6 charaoteristics of theme parks:1.Individuality and popularity;2.Passive recreation;3.Big investment and lange land occupation 4.Expensive adimission and iow rate of repeated visits;5.Long lofe oycle depending on constant renewal of activities;6.positive impacts on neighbourhood.The paper also discusses 3 main factors influencing the distribution of theme parks,i.e,1. Location,2. Urban image,3.Concentration and dispersion.The paper analyses 2 theme park examples:Splendid China,Shenahen and PearI Land,Zhuhai. The former has been a success while the latter a failure. Finally,the paper gives advices to the wave of theme parks development in China.

    ANALYSIS AND ESTIMATION OF THE KARST SOLUTIONAL INTENSITY

    Based upon thecalculated solution ratesbyusing thewater cbemacal data in the Hongshuihe River Basin,the influences of precipiton,lithology,geomorphology and temperature on solutional intensity have been analysed.The resuIts show that lithology is the most important factor aftecting on karst solutional intensity;precipitation is the second. The solutional intensities will slightly increase with surface relief, but the influence of temperature on solutional intensity is not obvious in the area. Finally,an equation to estimte solutional intensity is given as follows:In(x)=1/(4.21/In(P)+0.829/In(lf)+0.295/In(G)-0.636) where P is the annual precipitation,lf is the lithologic mark value,G is the geomorphic mark value, X is the solutional intensity.

    The Zhe-min mountain region is one greatest tea production base in China.The tea production base is charaterized by the natural and economic conditions of the mountain region. By considering the ecological conditions seven key factors are selected, and according to the economic conditions of the production base five key factors are selected.The weighting coefficient of every key factor is computed and the evaluation value of every key factor is determined.The following formular is applied: The synthetic evaluation value of every key factor is computed, and their difference is recognized.At last the rational locations,for tea production base are indicated.

    Fractal theory is a new techniques occurred with development of modern mathematics.Fractal geomorphological research is a new direction in geomorphology with the application of fractaI theoty. Fractal geomorpholoh can be considered to bi a new discipline to deal with the principle of orgins, development and distribution of relieves of the earth surface with special reference to fractaI theory. It focuses on the fractal geometric character of the distribution of geomorphological phenomena in space and time(phase space)and the related significanes in geomorphological process. In this paper, with a brief intruduction of the basic concepts of fractal, We reviewed the recent accomplishment of the application of fractal theory to morphological research of drainage basin and various types of geomorphology and to geomor-phological process researches including following aspects:1)coastal geomorphology,2)fluvial geomorphology,3) karst geomorphology,4)other types of geomorphology including glacial landforms,soilcovered land-scape and rock talus,5)mathematical-technique to generate fractal landscapes,6)landscape evolution,and 7)fractals in geomorphological process in phase space.Fractal theory prevides a new technique to find and to describe quantitative geometrical characters of chaotic,geomorphic phenomena, and variouskindfractal dimensions become type of geomorphic parameters. Fractal theory may be a possible way for geomorphologist to study and to explain the complex and chaotic earth surface processes and landforms. As for the future research of fractal geomorphology,the following issues still need further study:1) the genetic mechanisms of geomorphic fractal,ie,the relationship between geomorphic fractals and geomorphic conditions,2)the relationship between geomorphic fractal dimensions and geomorphic processes(phase),3)relationship between range-scale of geomorphic fractals and that of geomorphic processes,4)the further study of digital modeling of fractal landscape and its relation to physical geomorphic processes, 5)fractal characteristics of geomorphic phenomena in space and time and the possibility of geomorphic forecasting.
